What i changed?
For this second arguement essay i mostly adjusted the body of my essay to make it sound more appealing since we were writing to professional companies and i needed for draw to my essay.
To whom it may concern:
When I come to think of the issues that happen in collegiate sports, the first one that comes to mind is a college suffering for its athletes’ mistakes. It should; after all who accepted these students into the university? My name is Anthony Zimbardi and I’m a big follower of collegiate sports and what goes on with them. I believe that the actions that you, the NCAA, take towards these universities for their athletes’ mistakes are correct and reasonable. In my opinion, if a college is willing to recruit those athletes and accept them as students, then it will have to take responsibility for those athletes’ actions.
When you’re a head coach of a college team you’re in charge of keeping the athletes under control and to be sure they are abiding by the rules and not violating NCAA policies. As a coach you know who the athlete and is and what he’s like because you meet with him before he attends because that’s what recruiting is about. If a certain athlete is in trouble sometimes in high school that would make him liable to cause problems in college as well. Therefore as a coach you’re taking an assumption of risk by still bringing him to the university. If you notice any possible things that could have this athlete damper the university in any way then you should most likely not bring them to that college, which overall would prevent mostly any type of sanction or problems to the university.
The college not only recruits the athlete but once they are at the university; that university is in charge of keeping them under control and making sure they’re not breaking any policies. As a college athlete you’re not permitted to sell any merchandise that could bring money that you are able to possess. When you’re watching over the athletes when they attend the university, that’s something coaches and other staff members of universities should be preventing. Many may say these student athletes are in college; they don’t need to be watched and followed every move they make. However do they have a defensive point for them to not be? I don’t believe so, with all the bad things and inappropriate actions that have taken place in the past, there’s no choice but to watch over these athletes. When a coach recruits an athlete they get a set of guidelines that shows what goes with being a student athlete, and if they don’t follow those rules and regulations they deserve to be penalized.
On the other hand, athletes only attend the university for at most around five to six years, so they ask why would you penalize a university for something they aren’t apart of anymore and not just the athlete? Athletes should be penalized not the university, they’re the whole reason for the incident that happened. However In most events this will occur while the athletes are attending the university, which however should lead to punishments for both the university and athletes. The amount of time a student athlete attends a university shouldn’t matter, it’s about when the incident happened.
The future athletes that weren’t involved in any type of scandal that occurs shouldn’t be penalized. But they however chose to come to that university that is penalized and they should be involved in that case. If as a student you know of the consequences that could be involved when attending a university then you should choose a different route, however if you understand the implications then they should be liable to be penalized. The athlete should be penalized personally instead of through the university and then having future students affected by a previous athletes mistake. This however, goes back to the coaches and administration controlling the athletes and assuring they follow the rules and don’t commit any illegal acts. The university now doesn’t just let down current students but now affects its future student body as well.
All in all, I believe that the sanctions that are put down for the mistakes by athletes on the university are very reasonable and understandable. Their shouldn’t be any illegal action by an athlete going on at a college level, they’re a student and an athlete, nothing else. When athletes abuse this and try to be more than a student and an athlete, I do believe the athlete and the University for allowing such to happen should be penalized and lose scholarships, and money. As the NCAA it’s your job to make sure there is no advantage by any college or player and if punishment is needed to make other colleges and athletes understand, then that’s how it has to be. The athletes can’t be ruining the tradition and character of the collegiate sports level by being things other than a student athlete.
Sincerely,
Anthony Zimbardi
